about

Music inspired during a stay in Minocqua, Wisconsin, USA.

The cover artwork was created by Nicola Cornwell and inspired by COPPER THUNDERBIRD - explanation below!

Located in the northwest corner of Oneida County, the town’s name was derived from the Ojibwe word “Ninocqua,” meaning “noon-day rest.” Native Americans once used the Island of Minocqua as a place of rest during their journeys.
The Ojibwe people are a large Native American tribe located in North America, scattered throughout the Great Lakes Region of the United States. Although it took some time before these natives were recognized as a tribe by Europeans, their part in history and presence today can still widely be seen in Minnesota.
The Ojibwe people have a long history within the Midwest, and were here long before whites started pouring in looking for furs in the 1600s.

Today in Minnesota, the United States recognizes six different bands of the Ojibwe nation, including: Boise Forte, Fond du Lac, Grand Portage, Leech Lake, Mille Lacs, and the White Earth (Ojibwe). Although the tribe underwent great recession with the involvement of whites settling America, they are still one of the largest groups of Native Americans around, with the total estimated number of people comprising the tribe as 190,000.

NORVAL MORRISEAU a.k.a. COPPER THUNDERBIRD
Norval Morrisseau, was born March 1932, in Canada.  Ojibwe and raised by his Ojibwe grandparents, Norval learned the stories and legends of his people through his grandmother.  At the age of 19 Norval Morrisseau caught a bad illness and nearly died.  However, his grandmother was a medicine woman; she performed a naming ceremony and renamed him Copper Thunderbird.  Surprisingly, Copper Thunderbird regained his health.
Norval Morrisseau became interested in art and taught himself how to paint.  He was very skilled and soon gained recognition. His art portrayed the legends and stories of his people, cultural and political tensions, his struggles, and  deep themes of spirituality and mysticism. He founded the Woodlands School of Canadian Art.

DREAMCATCHERS
Dreamcatchers are used teach about natural wisdom.   Dreamcatchers were made to imitate the web of a spider to catch all dreams.  Today, many different tribes make dreamcatchers, however they didn't start making dreamcatchers until 1970.  Until that time, Ojibwe were the only people who made dreamcatchers, but the popularity of dreamcatcher earrings in the 70's caused the other tribes to pick up this art.
